The World Artificial Intelligence Conference invites top executives from tech companies around the world to show how artificial intelligence “boosts the economy and changes people’s lives.”Alibaba innovation
Alibaba’s Shanghai research and development center officially opened at the Zhangjiang Artificial Intelligence Island late last year.
The island, also known as the Zhangjiang AIsland, is a part of Zhangjiang Science City. It offers help for innovative startups, tapping the rich commercial facilities in the city. One innovation is a voice recognition ticket-vending machine at major Metro stations that allows passengers to state their destinations verbally instead of having to select from hundreds of stations listed on a screen.
Another innovation, driverless delivery carts have been deployed at the Xuhui campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University since April 2019. The unmanned carts, operated by Alibaba’s logistics affiliate Cainiao Network, automatically work out the most efficient route for pickup or delivery of packages at campus facilities.
In Shanghai’s Chongming District, Alibaba and government authorities have signed a partnership to help promote the island’s farm products with digital infrastructure.
Sensors and smart screens are set up at pear farms in Chongming. Drones spray pesticides on orchards, and underground sensors send back soil analysis so that nutritional supplements can be added when and if needed.
The e-commerce giant hopes to add several dedicated warehouse and dispatch centers close to produce-growing areas to provide faster shipment. Disinfecting and sorting at the dispatch sites will utilize automated procedures.Three dedicated warehouses close to the origin of produce are expected to be established by the end of this year in the cities of Xi’an, Chengdu and Zibo as part of a nationwide supply chain.
